Perhaps it is safe to say all of us lust after glowing skin. Uneven skin tone or dark sports are a big NO for all of us, especially women.

Let’s brighten our day and find out about a DIY regime that removes our pigmentation and adds glow without damaging the skin.

Pigmentation or hyper pigmentation is a common skin condition where some areas of the skin turn darker in colour. There can be two factors – external & internal. External factors can be sunlight or UV radiation, while internal ones include hormonal changes. Such factors can lead to over production and uneven distribution of melanin in the skin which results in freckles, uneven skin tone, dark spots and early ageing.

Here is a revolutionary solution that is result oriented and customised to give a lasting effect.

PRODUCT REVIEW – NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Shades-Stockholm (SMLC02) and London(SMLC04)

PRODUCT REVIEW - NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Shades-Stockholm (SMLC02) and London(SMLC04)

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream has 34 shades to choose from, all ranging from nudes to vibrant colors. Although, I prefer the pink and nudes. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream is one of the best lip creams I have ever used. I have become an absolute sucker for matte lipsticks ever since I bought these. It has a creamy texture that glides smoothly, feels weightless and sets to matte finish, and I prefer the texture of these over most liquid lipsticks as they do not dry out my lips. It lasts for at least 5 to 6 hours and keeps my lips moisturized, which makes this product simply amazing for the price!

Its packaging is not too fancy but it comes in a cute color-coded tube with a velvety black cap; it’s compact and perfect for your handbag. It has a doe foot applicator which helps in precise application. The shades are highly pigmented so you might not see a much difference in multiple coats, but to avoid the streaky feel, apply it once horizontally and then vertically.

My current favorite shades are-

Here are the shades that I have and their individual swatches:

Stockholm (SMLC02)

It’s an earthy shade with pinkish undertones. This matte lip cream smells amazing, somewhat like vanilla! For a more subdued look, it’s a perfect nude and I am personally very fond of it, usually the shade I reach for when I can’t decide what goes best with any outfit. However, it is a neutral shade yet richly pigmented and opaque enough to cover pigmented lips in one application. I recommend this shade as it is well-matched for light to medium skin tones and it could wash out darker complexions.

MRP: Rs 570 (bought from Sephora Pune)

Here you can see how it looks like on my skin tone.

London is a beautiful nude lip color with a pinch of brown; it appears very natural on fair and light skin tones. Pigmentation is on the medium side, so it doesn’t look totally opaque on the lips in one swipe. I absolutely love how lightweight this is on the lips. It keeps my lips moisturized too!

MRP: Rs 600 (bought from Nykaa)

Here you can see how it looks like on my skin tone.

If you are looking for warm neutral lip shades which are long lasting and inexpensive, you could give these lip creams a try.

Are there any shades you recommend to buy?

Winter is here and I personally love this season. Sipping steaming cups of tea, snacking on dry fruits, and cuddling up in warm blankets: winter has its own charm! But unfortunately, winter season, however, has its drawback too. It’s that time of the year where I need to take little extra care to ensure a glowing and a healthy skin.

Winter brings extreme skin dryness, leaving it flaky. It makes the skin vulnerable to lose its moisture and henceforth requires hydration. Staying hydrated is the key mantra to get rid of all skin problems! Trust me water plays a major role. It is hard to deny that my body feels better when I am especially good at getting my eight glasses of water every day. The most natural way to get a glowing, cheerful and healthy skin is by having an ample amount of water!

We are aware of hundreds of mainstream beauty products available in the market that promise to offer glowing skin in winter. And yes, some of them might stick to their promise but observe that the glow attained by using those affluent products won’t last long. Besides, there would be some hidden damage to the skin for sure, which an individual might realize later. Consequently, some commercial beauty products might give the desired result in a short span of time but may cause long-term impairment to the skin. So, instead of opting for such affluent beauty products, why not try the following home remedies for a healthy and a hydrated skin? All you need is a few ingredients from your kitchen, and you’re good to go!

Here are 5 home remedies for glowing skin in winters

Honey is excellent for the skin when taken internally and externally. Honey is loaded with nutrients, antioxidants, and healing compounds.

Apply one teaspoon of honey and massage the skin daily. Leave it on for about 10 minutes and then wash. Pat dry and you will see that not only is your skin softer but also glowing!
Also, you can mix 1 tablespoon of honey with 1 tablespoon of rose water and apply this pack on the face for 10 minutes and wash. This will make your skin moisturized and toned!

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is excellent not only for cooking but works wonders for the skin as well! It is rich in antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and antioxidant properties. Also, acts as a perfect skin moisturizer and been used since ages for beauty and health benefits. Coconut oil helps in cleansing, moisturizing, removing makeup, healing wounds or scars faster, and also prevents razor burns.

Mix coconut oil with olive oil and apply this mixture all over your face daily at bedtime to lighten facial blemishes. This also prevents your skin from getting overly dry in the winters.

Mix glycerin, lemon juice and rose water in equal proportion and apply it to face and body and leave it overnight.

Glycerin maintains the moisture in your skin and resolves the dryness problem during winter.

Papaya & Banana Mask

Papayas are known to contain anti-oxidants while bananas are rich in vitamins and also act as an anti-aging agent. It is the easiest and fastest home remedy for dry skin in winter.

Prepare a paste with ripe papaya and banana and add 1 tablespoon of honey to the mixture and apply it on your skin and get the glowing skin in the winters.

Oatmeal Pack

Oatmeal is amazing for sensitive, allergy or eczema prone skin as it is overloaded with anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, skin healing and itch-relieving benefits. Oatmeal is a healthy food and a treat for your skin too!

Take 2 to 3 tablespoons of oatmeal and add 2 tablespoons of lukewarm full cream milk (can increase the amount of milk to get the desired consistency of the pack) and soak it for 5 minutes. Apply this mixture to your skin for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse off with water. Repeat this process 2 to 3 times a week. It makes your skin clean and glowing.

Get your hands on these natural remedies regularly and say goodbye to the flaky, dry and itchy skin this winter.
